The simulator is part of the Eclipse Megamovie Project, a self-described “citizen science” endeavor that aims to collect more than 1,000 images and videos from across the eclipse’s path of totality, in order to compile a full picture of the eclipse’s journey across the United States. New York City? Well, you’ll miss out on the total eclipse, but you’ll be able to see a partial one, starting at 2:09 p.m. Made it to Hopkinsville? Totality will hit at 1:26 p.m. Simply put in the zip code or name of the town you’ll be in on August 21, and you’re shown an animation that tells you where the sun will be throughout the day and-most importantly-when the total eclipse will occur. As the Verge points out, the Eclipse Megamovie Simulator is an eclipse-hunter’s best friend.
